Sohag Sen is the visiting faculty of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and Rabindra Bharati University, and the Head of the Department of the Direction Course in KFTI. She conducts regular film acting workshops for world renowned directors like Aparna Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Rituparno Ghosh, Anjan Dutta and others. She has been the Casting Director for Mira Nair’s critically acclaimed film, The Namesake. She has also trained presenters for varied Media houses like Big FM and Kolkata TV.
As an actor, she started her career under the guidance of the legendary Utpal Dutta, in the year 1969. Since then she has continued to fascinate the Bengali theatre audience with a great variety of roles, many of them in plays of her own direction. Sohag Sen has also acted in films with directors of international repute, like Chidananda Dasgupta, Rituparno Ghosh, Anjan Dutta and Roland Joffe.
Sohag Sen’s association with theatre and allied media spans a period of almost forty years. During this time, she has donned many a hat – actor, director, trainer etc. – excelling in every sphere she has ventured into.
She started her career as a Director in 1978 and formed her own group, Ensemble, in 1983. In fact, she is the second woman director in Bengali theatre history, after the celebrated Tripti Mitra. As a director in theater Sohag Sen has dealt with plays by dramatists as varied as Mahesh Elkunchwar and Botho Strauss. Her contribution to theater has been recognized by many awards and accolades including the prestigious Paschim Banga Natya Akademi Award for Theatrical Excellence and the Lebedov Award.
