Sonali Dasgupta (Rossellini):
Sonali Dasgupta (Rossellini) (Bengali: সোনালী দাশগুপ্ত; born 1929, West Bengal, India - died 7 June 2014, Rome, Italy) was an aspiring actress and screenwriter. She was was seen at elite gatherings, always dressed in a sari, she organised exhibitions of ancient Indian jewellery and owned a boutique in Rome.
Sonali completed her studies from Shanti Niketan and married to filmmaker Harisadhan Dasgupta. Their son Raja Dasgupta is also a filmmaker. Sonali was closest to her youngest and only brother, Karun Senroy, an engineer who now lives in Ventabren.
Later she had an affair with legendary Italian director Roberto Rossellini. Rossellini eloped with married Sonali Das Gupta, when she was only 27 years old and later married her in 1957 and adopted her young son Arjun, renamed Gil Rossellini (23 October 1956 – 3 October 2008). Rossellini and Sonali had a daughter together, Raffaella Rossellini (born 1958), who is also an actress and model.
Sonali was a successful businesswoman also, who ran an India-inspired boutique - probably the first such in Rome of the early 60s and remained an integral part of the city's social and cultural circuit. Her clothes, jewellery, furnishings and handicrafts sold at "Sonali", her store, were much sought after and her clientele included the film fraternity of Itlay and Hollywood.
